Extended Services

Breakfast Club

At Bygrove we want every child to start the day with everything they need in order to learn effectively; a fundamental element of this is a healthy, filling breakfast. The chance to socialise with peers & adults, to keep fit & play also play an important role in readying children for the day ahead.

Our breakfast club is open from 8.00am serving a wide range of breakfast delights; porridge, cereal, toast, bagels, croissants, pancakes, yoghurts, eggs, cheese and fruit are on offer every day. When they’ve finished eating and socialising the children have chance to take part in a variety of activities including gymnastics and art. Bagels and juice are also offered at the school gates to anyone coming in feeling hungry, courtesy of the charity ‘Magic Breakfast’.  The breakfast club benefits from the support of the Magic Breakfast Mayor’s Fund for London Project.

For more information on Magic Breakfast, have a look at: http://www.magicbreakfast.com/about-magic-breakfast/london-sustainability-programme

All food served at breakfast club is halal.  We also cater for different dietary needs.  Breakfast club costs just 50p per day and the children can come for any number of days each week.

After School Clubs

Pupils can sign up to take part in after school clubs each term. They can choose from several sports clubs, dance, drama, music, art, science, cooking, Bengali and Arabic clubs. Pupils pay a small charge towards the cost of running the clubs. Clubs run from 3.45-4.45pm.

Lending Library

Families can visit the school lending library and borrow books and games from 3.30-5.30 every day.  Children are also welcome to stay and complete their homework using the resources in the library.

We have regular storytelling sessions in the library too with a professional storyteller.

Stay and Play

Parents of nursery children are invited to stay and play in the nursery with their children every Friday from 9.20-10.45am. They may also bring younger siblings with them. Toy packs are available for parents and children to borrow each week.

Services for Families

We employ a social worker and a health advisor one day a week to work with families who would like support.  We also host a drop-in with a family adviser from CAMHS once a fortnight.  The family adviser can help parents with issues around food, sleep, behaviour at home or any parenting issue they are concerned about.

School-Home Support Worker

Our School-Home Support Worker offers support & guidance for families & signposts other agencies & services to them.  She is based full-time in the Family Room & can help with a range of issues from housing to domestic violence, secondary transfer to benefits; if she can’t help then she’ll know someone who can. She also arranges regular workshops for parents including the Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities course, ESOL and plumbing!

Speech & Language Therapy

We know that early diagnosis & intervention pays great dividends in speech therapy. To that end we employ a speech & language therapist for 2 days a week to work predominantly - though not exclusively - with children in the Foundation Stage & Year 1. Part of her role is to train our teaching teams in the most effective speech & language techniques.
