Getting Involved

There are so many reasons to get stuck in to what’s going on in school & so many ways to do it. We know for example that the more involved parents are in school life, the better their children tend to do in school.

But don’t just do it for them – do it for yourself. We run loads of courses & workshops in our amazing Family Learning room; we have a thriving parents’ group (EPPa) & countless ways to volunteer in school.

So go on. Start small. Put in a little. Get out a lot.

How can I get involved?

EPPa

Effective Partnership with Parents (EPPa) is the name of our parents group. They meet every half term in the Family Learning room to discuss how they might help the school to achieve its aims for their children.

The group has its own constitution, a chair & vice-chair, secretary & treasurer, & is able to apply for grants & pots of money such as lottery funding that the school has no access to. They also help to organise events such as the annual Multicultural Day feast in the playground!

The EPPa group always welcomes new members. So if you’ve got fresh ideas or relevant skills or even if you just want to be a part of it all, do get in touch. Email admin@bygrove.towerhamlets.sch.uk or just turn up at the next meeting!

Courses & workshops

We love running courses for parents & families & now we’ve got the perfect premises to do it. In the last couple of years, we’ve run the following dizzying array:

  • Plumbing
  • Sewing
  • Cooking
  • ICT
  • Sex & Relationships Education
  • Dance
  • Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities
  • Warrior Women self defence
  • Public speaking
  • Embroidery
  • Maths (with Mr Numbervator)
  • Storytelling
  • & coming soon – Beauty & make-up

The menu of activities is constantly refreshed so get in touch with the office on admin@bygrove.towerhamlets.sch.uk to find out what’s currently on offer & what’s coming up. Or why not suggest something that you want & we’ll see what we can do? It’s never too late to learn & there’s something for everyone!

Volunteering

People in strong communities volunteer. We love volunteers in our school! We have lots of them & they do an amazing job. Some of our volunteers are parents & others come from the local business community. Some are looking for work experience but the vast majority just want to give something back; they love working with the children & they can see the difference they’re making. If you’d like to volunteer at Bygrove, call or email admin@bygrove.towerhamlets.sch.uk
